Acid Reflux

Acid reflux is best described by chronic symptoms of heartburn and chest pains. The regurgitation of acidic material mixed with small amounts of undigested food into the esophagus is also a symptom of acid reflux. Its causes are usually physical.

When the gastric contents of the stomach flow into the esophagus, it creates discomfort, pain and possibly lasting tissue damage. Over time the mucosal membrane of the esophagus may be damaged by the abnormal reflux (regurgitation) of the stomach contents.

It is a physical problem. When the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) does not effectively contain the contents of the stomach or when the opening (the hiatus) of the diaphragm is weak or large is a factor, acid reflux results.

A common symptom of those suffering from this condition is heartburn. Heartburn feels like a burning, stinging and sometimes ripping pain around the breastbone area. Other symptoms include difficulty in swallowing and changes in the sensitive linings of the throat or esophagus. Ignoring these symptoms without treatment, sufferers can develop esophageal ulcers or scarring.

Natural Treatment

You should consult your doctor to determine the seriousness of your condition. However, there are holistic natural treatments that can cure you.

As an example, there are many types of food that are more likely to trigger these symptoms. Avoiding these foods or decreasing your intake of these foods will help to alleviate the situation.

Acidic, fatty and spicy foods promote gastroesophageal reflux. Coffee, alcohol, vitamin C and calcium supplements are gastric acid stimulants. It is best to consume these items during the day. Just before bedtime would be the worst time.

Chocolate and peppermint, onions, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts are also acid reflux stimulants. Eat smaller meals, elevate the head of your bed and drink more water. These natural treatments have all been shown to have positive effects for providing relief of acid reflux and related conditions.

Although there are a number of heartburn/acid reflux medications on the market, you can find simple holistic solutions, such as avoiding the foods mentioned above. There are natural treatment systems in place that can permanently cure the problem without having to resort to medications. Treating the symptoms without treating the underlying causes will ultimately make the problem worse. You can cure yourself naturally without drugs. There is a natural treatment.
