New Acid Reflux Problem?
Hello everyone,
I have previously asked a question regarding Acid Reflux, and Prilosec. Suffice to say, that I am having a new problem.
You see, my parents have been allowing me to take my Prilosec (which was prescribed to me by a medical doctor) … up until now. I have ran out of it, causing me serious pain. I keep telling them, “I really do need some more now…,” but they just don’t listen. They distrust doctors and every idea that isn’t spawned from their own minds. Lately, they have the idea in their heads, that they want to try this crazy theory that if you INCREASE the acid in the stomach, you will not get the Reflux… To me, this sounded illogical and potentially dangerous. I decided that the only way was to try, and, like I thought, it made my problem worse.
All background information aside, I have ran out of Prilosec, and I can’t get my parents to pay for it. I know that I have to go to the doctor to renew my prescription, but I was wondering … could I (age 16) buy the OTC Prilosec, say, at Costco (the cheapest area). I don’t think that it is fair that my parents are withholding medical treatment, but, if I have to clean out my (small) savings account, I will.
Regards to all who help.

You poor thing. I have GERD and don’t know what I’d do without my PPI. I’m actually taking Omeprazole, which is generic Prilosec. I have a prescription for it, but noticed that Omeprazole is now available OTC, and it is cheaper than Prilosec.
To answer your question, you can buy Prilosec OTC.
