Super Acid Reflux Problem?
Hello all who look at this,
as the title indicates, I indeed have acid reflux. Normally, I would controll it with Prilosec, and for the occasional ‘on-the-go’ flair up, I would pop a few TUMS.
Here’s where it gets bad. You see, I have had acid reflux all of my memorable life, and it just got worse enough last year for me to get diagnosed with it (I am 16.5). Doctor says I “have the esophagus of a 30 year old.” So, he prescribed Prilosec, two tablets 30 minutes before meal in morning, one 30 minutes before meal at night. For a while this seemed to solve the problem, but it gets much worse.
Now, since mid-January of this year, not too long after I started taking Prilosec, my acid reflux has came back full force, EVEN WHEN TAKING PRILOSEC. Now, I am not a medical expert, but I am pretty sure, it is not supposed to do this. I (of course) talked to my parents about it, and recommended going back to the doctor for that follow-up exam which never got taken. Well, I learn that my parents absolutely **** doctors. And from here, I have gone through two routines with them:
1) – Here, read this wonderful book about changing your eating habits, and try it. I do, I try for a while, (parents said ‘if this doesn’t work, we go to the doctor) and … it didn’t change anything. This leads to number two.
2) – Here, take these digestive enzymes…
I happen to have a very great recollection that I took these exact same enzymes (same brand, in capsule form) almost three years ago, when I had a significantly ‘less-violent’ form of acid reflux and … they didn’t work. Well, suddenly, my parents just don’t seem to remember this, (they did when they bought them just two and a half weeks ago) and they say, ‘you have to try them more’ or ‘you have to believe in them.’
So, my question is simply this: “What do I do?”
I have just had enough with this game of ‘try-this,’ ‘try-that,’ that my parents are running about through. It has effected my daily life as well, I am bothered by all foods (even the most liquid of liquids) and have a difficult time going to people’s houses (they cook their way, I get acid reflux any-way).
I have even considered filing a legal claim of somesort, demanding medical treatment. But, if I had the money to file a claim, I could be getting treatment already. And, if i sue them (which I can’t) then a few college opportunities are down the drain.
So please, what do the wise people here recommend?
New Acid Reflux Problem?
Hello everyone,
I have previously asked a question regarding Acid Reflux, and Prilosec. Suffice to say, that I am having a new problem.
You see, my parents have been allowing me to take my Prilosec (which was prescribed to me by a medical doctor) … up until now. I have ran out of it, causing me serious pain. I keep telling them, “I really do need some more now…,” but they just don’t listen. They distrust doctors and every idea that isn’t spawned from their own minds. Lately, they have the idea in their heads, that they want to try this crazy theory that if you INCREASE the acid in the stomach, you will not get the Reflux… To me, this sounded illogical and potentially dangerous. I decided that the only way was to try, and, like I thought, it made my problem worse.
All background information aside, I have ran out of Prilosec, and I can’t get my parents to pay for it. I know that I have to go to the doctor to renew my prescription, but I was wondering … could I (age 16) buy the OTC Prilosec, say, at Costco (the cheapest area). I don’t think that it is fair that my parents are withholding medical treatment, but, if I have to clean out my (small) savings account, I will.
Regards to all who help.
