My interest in GER began in the early nineties when, as a pediatrician, I was uncomfortable passing babies off as having "colic." Since that time, I have replaced the term "colicky baby" with the more accurate description "the hurting baby," and it turns out that many so-called colicky babies actually suffer from this treatable condition. My favorite feature of this book is that it teaches what I believe is the best medical model for the treatment of GER: the pills-and-skills model. This is the model that I follow in my pediatric practice in treating infants and children with GER. Besides the "pills," or medications, that you will learn about to treat GER, you will also learn the many infant and childcare skills and feeding skills that will help alleviate this painful condition... I wish that every healthcare provider who counsels parents for GER will "prescribe" this book.

most informative book on reflux on the market

Reviewer: Mary G. Ady,
As a Certified Infant Massage Instructor, I bought this book to thoroughly educate myself on reflux. Reflux is one of the most common compliants from parents in preventative health classes, such as infant massage. I recommend this book to all my clients whose babies are experiencing reflux. It is written with such detail a pediatric doctor would surely learn new things but also any parent can easily understand.
I not only recommend this book, but frequently refrence it myself. I have even recommended it for adults who experience Reflux. It is a very educational book.
Must have book on reflux!

This book is a must have for anyone dealing with an infant that has acid reflux or for anyone in the professional field that might deal with a "reflux baby" (PT/OT, pediatricians, nutritionists/dietitians, nurses, health dept etc). Not only does the book give you all the basics of reflux including: definitions, treatments, symptoms and testing it also delves into many more complicated issues that can be found with reflux.

The book has a ton of practical tips and is very easy to read! The section about "Intensive Care Parenting" is a must read for anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed while trying to care for their own reflux baby. It definitely made me feel like I was not alone in my own struggles. Someone really knows exactly how hard it can be and has the tools and tips for coping with the stress. There are also several stories that will literally have you laughing out loud!

Beth Pulsifer-Anderson's compassion for these children, as well as the parents, is apparent in every chapter of the book. The numerous stories from other parents with reflux babies is really helpful. I promise you will find yourself saying "me too" very often!! The book gives much more understanding of the "reflux roller coaster" as well as a sense that others have been there too and have come through it with their own children... and their sanity... in tact!

I just recently found myself referring to this book yet again for advice on dealing with my child's reflux as she begins school. Thank you for writing this book!!!

For anyone who has had to deal with an infant or tyke of any age who has reflux, I am so sorry. But there is hope - and most of it is in this thorough tome about the disorder and how to deal with it practically, compassionately and medically.

Beth Anderson crams thirty years of experience into clearly written and illustrated 300 plus pages that serve as an encyclopedia for all forms of reflux. The list of resources is invaluable and useful for adult sufferers as well.
A lifesaver for parents

Review Date: June 15, 2010
Reviewer: Allen H. Reynolds,
Parents of children with GERD are often overwhelmed with distress and confusion. The Reflux Book is their lifesaver. It skillfully balances between advice for the "newbies" and for the more knowledgeable, for the mild cases and the more severe cases. We expect such a book to deal with diagnosis, tests, diets, and therapies, and Ms Anderson does this well. But she also describes the emotional impact on parents and families, which is highly important in our lives. The author speaks in a sympathetic and understanding tone on this issue because she and her family have walked that rough and stressful road themselves.
